Greetings from the Residential Building Official

The Residential Building Division provides residential plan checking and inspection services for new construction, additions, and remodels within the City of Butler. The Residential Building Division is located in City Hall, 140 W. North St. on the SECOND FLOOR.

Our goal is to provide an effective and efficient way to provide general information about the Building Permit Office: develop, update and maintain informational handouts on the process for obtaining permits; and provide information on the operation of the Building Division.

The Building Permit Office provides a single location for customers to obtain necessary information about permitting and developing residential properties in Butler.

The Residential Building Division is responsible for reviewing permit applications for compliance with all applicable state and local building codes and regulations. These include building, electrical, mechanical, plumbing  and energy efficiency codes and standards. The division also performs field inspections on all permits issued to verify compliance with these codes, and insure that new construction in Butler is constructed in accordance with the highest standards of safety and that all existing structures are maintained in a safe condition.

Residential Permit Requirements

Some building, demolition and home improvement projects require a building permit. It is the responsibility of the homeowner and/or contractor to ensure that permits are received prior to beginning the work. The cost of the permit varies based on the type of work that is being completed. Information to assist in preparing to apply for a permit is provided below.
