Civil Service Testing
Entry-level, Full-time Police Officer
The civil service application required to apply for the position of entry-level, full-time police officer is available at the City Building, 140 West North St., Butler, PA 16001 or by clicking the link below. The City Building is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday except holidays. Completed applications must be returned to the Office of the City Clerk not later than 4:00 p.m. on June 11, 2026. Applications received after that time will be rejected.
A physical agility test and a written examination will be held on June 18, 2026, at 8:30 a.m., at the Allegheny County Police Academy, 700 West Ridge Drive, Allison Park, PA. Applicants must arrive by 8:00 a.m. A written examination will be given on to applicants who pass the physical agility test. Other mandatory components of the test for eligible applicants (based on their physical agility test and written test scores) include an oral examination, a background investigation, a medical examination, a vision examination and a psychological examination.
Applicants will successfully be Pennsylvania Act 120 Certified under the provisions of the Municipal Police Officer’s Education and Training Commission (MPOETC) and may be currently enrolled in ACT 120 program to take the exam or will have successfully competed Act 120 Certification Training and successfully passed the final exam prior to hiring.

Entry-level, Part-time Firefighter
Forms required to apply for the entry-level, part-time firefighter position are available at the City Building, 140 West North St., Butler, PA 16001 or by clicking the link below. The City Building is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, except holidays. Parking Violation Monitors
The City of Butler is accepting applications for part-time parking violation monitors, commonly referred to as meter monitors, to assist the Bureau of Police in the inspection and patrolling of parking meters, parking stalls, and other designated parking violations on City streets and parking lots. City residents will receive hiring preference over non-residents, and the successful applicant must agree to a criminal background investigation, pass a physical examination, and complete a 90-day probationary period.
