Municipal Partners – Good afternoon!

WE NEED YOUR ASSISTANCE – Please read carefully – PEMA and the Pittsburgh US Army Corps Office have been working closely with your County EMA and County Planning Offices on these 2 offerings.

We are a month away from this session and are looking to provide these opportunities to the most folks that we can at your location as the National Team is hard to get to come to our state!

The Pittsburgh District Silver Jackets team, FEMA, EPA, DCED and PEMA are hosting 2 nonstructural flood proofing workshops in the Butler area for the purpose of achieving community flood risk reduction and awareness. An afternoon workshop will be conducted for community officials from 1-4:30 pm; the general public will be invited to attend an evening workshop session from 7-9 pm at the Butler County EMA Office located on 120 McCune Drive, Butler, PA 16001.

Flyers for these two events are attached to this email. We ask that you please forward and distribute to other local organizations and individuals who may be interested in attending. Registration information is provided on each of the flyers for the two target audiences.  Disseminate widely within your and adjacent counties.   We are trying to get an attendance count for handouts during the sessions.  Please REGISTER.

These events will give community officials and residents an opportunity to learn about different types of nonstructural flood proofing techniques from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers National Nonstructural Flood Proofing Committee. The flood proofing discussion will include topics such as elevating buildings, wet and dry flood proofing and relocation/acquisition. Federal and state representatives will also be on hand to discuss other floodplain management topics, such as the National Flood Insurance Program and Community Rating System.

Credit will be provided to certified floodplain managers attending the event.

For questions regarding the flood proofing workshop, please contact Michael Debes, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, at (412) 395-7327 or Michael.R.Debes@usace.army.mil.

Note: These workshops are being held in three regions Western Pennsylvania.  The workshops are scheduled to be held in Pittsburgh, Butler, and Erie, PA on April 4th, 5th, and 6th 2017, respectively. Should you not be able to attend the workshop in your community, consider registering for a workshop at one of the other locations.
